Miss Afton is the Owner of Fusion Dance & Fitness, LLC, and the Director of Edge Dance Company. Studying dance from a young age, in various studios along the way, she has trained in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Pointe, Hip Hop, Modern, Contemporary, Lyrical, and Theatre. In her many years of dance, she has also had the opportunity to participate in various dance conventions, competitions, and workshops along the way.
Afton was one of the first students to attend Attitudes Dance by Aimee, when it opened in 1999. She was also a member of the Andante Dance Company for many years, under the direction of Aimee Jennings. Afton became involved in Dance Team during high school, serving as a captain her senior year. After high school, she attended the University of Iowa where she obtained a B.A degree in Dance, as well as an Entrepreneurship Certificate. In addition to spending many hours in the Iowa dance department, Afton was a member of the University of Iowa Dance Team, and a senior year captain.
After graduation in 2007, she became an Instructor for the Universal Dance Association, instructing camps and working competitions for various high school dance teams across the Midwest. She returned to Attitudes Dance by Aimee as an instructor, teaching a variety of classes. Afton discovered fitness soon after and began instructing Zumba® many times a week at Attitudes, as well as area gyms.
In 2009, Afton relocated to Denver, Colorado where she continued to pursue her career as a dancer and fitness instructor. There she attended many fitness trainings of various forms, and continued to teach Zumba® at multiple gyms and health clubs. In 2010, she became a member of the Denver Nuggets Dancers, dancing for NBA games, making appearances, and working sponsorship promotions.
In addition, Afton has continued to work as a freelance choreographer since 2005. She has choreographed competition dances for various high school and college dance teams, as well as soloists, across the state of Iowa. Many of her teams have placed top 5 in the state, and many soloist dancers have placed top 10... Including two Class VI dancers in 2013, and a championship solo winner in 2012. In past, Afton coached the Cedar Falls Dance Team, 2007-09. She also worked closely with the Waterloo Columbus Dance Team, 2009-11.
When the opportunity to buy Attitudes Dance by Aimee became available in 2011, Afton was unable to pass up the opportunity. She is now proud to be the owner of Fusion Dance & Fitness, where she is able to fuse her love of dance and fitness into one, and to share her passion with the Cedar Valley.
Brianne Wilson has been a dancer in the Cedar Valley since she was 4. Her career began at Kim Ebetino’s in downtown Waterloo, then Attitudes Dance by Aimee from its’ grand opening in 1999. Brianne’s dance opportunities took her to several places, including New Orleans, LA in 2003 for a summer intensive with Skip Costa, New York City, NY to Broadway Dance Center in 2005, Duluth, MN with the Minnesota Ballet in 2006, and private ballet lessons with ballet master Finis Jung in New York City, NY again in 2007. After graduating from Denver High School in 2008, Brianne began went on to school to become an X-ray technologist, studying at Covenant Medical Center School of Radiography. In 2010, due to scheduling issues, she had to take a couple years off to start her medical career. When the opportunity to teach with Miss Afton came available, she returned to her dancing roots. Miss Brianne now works as a CT technologist at Covenant Medical Center, and is taking classes to achieve her bachelor’s in Healthcare Leadership. She is excited to be back teaching a wonderful group of kids at Fusion Dance and Fitness. She hopes to spread the passion and love she has for dance onto her students.
Miss Debra grew up in Kansas and began dancing at the age of three and never stopped. She has trained in Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, and Modern. Debra continued with dance in college and attained a BFA in Dance from Wichita State University. While at WSU she was a member of the Wichita State University Dance Ensemble. During her four years at WSU she served as vice president of the Mid-American Dance Theatre that helped students produce independent dance concerts. In addition, she was part of Wichita's traveling company the Wichita Contemporary Dance Theatre.
As a member of WCDT she toured in Kansas, Arkansas, Arizona, New Mexico, and a performance in Washington D.C. at the Kennedy Center. Debra has danced with several professional and semi-professional dance companies, including the modern/classical Indian Dance Company, Mosaics. She has also performed in several productions of the Nutcracker, including a principle role in an all-new version called the Prairie Nutcracker. In 2004 Debra danced with the Houston Metropolitan Dance Company, which is an outlet for diverse professional dancers proficient in multiple disciplines. From 2005-2007 she was a member of RKB Co. which performed throughout the Cedar Valley. During her 27 years of dancing, she has completed dance intensives with David Parsons, Denise Veil, Robert Battle, Gus Giordano, Dianne Walker, and many others. She has taught for more than seven studios across the Mid-west and Texas. Debra has choreographed musicals and pieces for universities, high schools, community theatres, dance studios, and dance competitions. After moving to the Cedar Valley, she continued her work in music theatre choreographing "Kiss Me Kate" and "The Music Man" for CFCT and "Pal Joey" for Wartburg College. Debra is thrilled to join the Fusion staff and share her love of dance.
Miss Maria has been dancing since childhood. She studied dance at Kim Ebitino’s Dance Studio and then Attitudes Dance by Aimee, where she performed in annual performances. In addition, she was a member of the Andante Performing Company, under the direction of Aimee Jennings. Miss Maria was able to perform 2 roles with the Moscow Ballet in The Great Russian Nutcracker, in 2002. During high school, she traveled every summer to train with many prestigious dance companies across the country. She received multiple scholarships and attended multiple Intensives at The Joffrey Ballet School, the American Academy of Ballet, the Southeast Dance Festival, and the Broadway Dance Center, where she accepted into the Intern Affiliate Program. Miss Maria was a dance instructor at Attitudes Dance by Aimee for 10 years before it became Fusion Dance & Fitness. She has produced a variety of choreography including solo and group pieces for her Church’s Celebrations, Andante Company Choreography, and State Solo competition pieces.
Miss Katy comes to our studio with many years of baton twirling expertise. She began dancing at age 4 and twirling at age 10. Her true love is baton twirling. She has competed on the local, state and national level receiving many awards. The highest honor was being selected as the Feature Twirler for the UNI Panther Marching Band in 2009. She is a graduate of UNI with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and is employed by Byrnes & Rupkey Inc. in Waterloo, IA. She is a native of Davenport, IA where she was a member of the Central Marching Band Color Guard, TNT Dynamite Baton and Pom Team, Varsity Cheerleading Team, Central Orchestra and many other extracurricular activities. She has been a baton instructor for 10 years. Katy also offers pageantry prep for pageant contestants of all ages.
Miss Haley began dancing in 1999 when Attitudes Dance by Aimeé opened in the Cedar Valley. During her time at Attitudes she spent 5 years dancing with the Adanté Dance Company under the direction of Aimeé Jennings. Miss Haley had the privilege to begin assisting dance classes in 2006 and began teaching classes in 2009. During her time at Attitudes Miss Haley auditioned and performed in the Minnesota Ballet's Nutcracker in various roles including Dianne in 2009. After her time at Attitudes she had the opportunity to teach at Movement Dance and Fitness in Grundy Center and joined the staff at Fusion in 2015. Miss Haley is the dance team coach at Waterloo West High School where she's spent 4 years dancing in high school. Miss Haley is excited for another year of dancing and teaching at Fusion!
Hannah is from Cedar Falls and currently attends the University of Northern Iowa. She has been dancing with studios for the past 16 years, and found the Fusion family five years ago. She spent four years on the Cedar Falls High School Dance Team, and served as captain her senior year. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to teach at Fusion alongside the wonderfully talented and hardworking staff and students.
Miss Harley is from Hudson, IA and is currently a freshman at the University of Northern Iowa studying pre-veterinary medicine. She started her dancing career when she was just three years old and has been active in a variety of dancing styles such as ballet, jazz, modern and theatre ever since. She has also been training as an assistant instructor at Fusion for the past four years. Harley is anxious to return to Fusion and share her love for dance with the kiddos at Fusion.
Shelly began dancing at the age of three in Carleen’s School of Dance. Born and raised in Iowa, Shelly kept busy with studio dance, dance team, show choir and cheerleading. She went on to receive her Performing Arts and Dance degree from Iowa State University receiving the Anna R. Toman dance scholarship award. Shelly enjoys teaching all ages and disciplines of dance. Her favorite styles to teach are Jazz, Contemporary and Tumble.
Reagan is from Waterloo, Iowa and currently attends the University of Northern Iowa as a Sophomore. She danced on the Columbus dance for four years, and served as captain her senior year. Reagan was also apart of Innovative Soul Dance Company for three years while she danced at Fusion. She excited to be back teaching with Fusion Dance and Fitness!
Miss Jennifer grew up in upstate New York. She began dancing at age three and learning piano at age four. She started with Ballet, Tap and Gymnastics, soon finding her love in Piano as well as Ballet.
She attended the New England Ballet School in Massachusetts and became part of the Kay Ballet Company where she developed a strong foundation in Checchetti Style Ballet, Pointe, and Modern Dance.
Under the direction of Miss Bette-Ann Libin in Connecticut, she broadened her skills in Russian Style Ballet, Character Dance, and Modern at intensive summer programs. Jennifer then attended the Albany Dance Institute in New York under the direction of David Otto, retired principle dancer from the New York City Ballet. With Otto, she refined her technique with the Balanchine Method of NYC. She then became part of the Capital Ballet Company as a corps dancer. Jennifer has performed numerous roles in The Nutcracker over the years, including Clara as a young dancer and, later on, as one of The Flowers. Graduating Cum Laude from the Russell Sage College for Women in New York, she secured a degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy. After college, teaching piano, raising her two children, crocheting, gardening and belly dance became other areas of her self-development. In 2009, after living in Boston, MA, Jennifer moved to Waterloo, IA where she teaches piano as well as working for Home Instead Senior Care, offering in-home care to the elderly community. She has a special interest in the connection between music and movement in the brain with the skills and memories that appear lost to those suffering from Dementia. Taking classes at Fusion re-awakened in Jennifer the depth of passion that she has always had for Ballet. She is excited by the opportunity to combine the skills she has developed as a piano teacher; the creative approaches, along with the patience and positive atmosphere she uses with elder-care and her first love – Ballet to impart discipline, strength and love of dance to her students at Fusion!
